Yellowstone 2009

My job requires I travel. I just returned from a couple of weeks in Billings, Montana. Billings is a nice place, really enjoyed it. While there me and my co-worked/travel companion traveled to Yellowstone National Park one weekend. We stayed in West Yellowstone, MT located just outside the Park. Pictures are in the photo gallery. Yellowstone National Park is a must see in the winter as far as I'm concerned. I'm definitely going back with the family.
West Yellowstone is a small tourist town. Snow, when it exists, is left in the streets, at least enough to run snow mobiles on and vehicles with tracks on them. There was plenty of snow while we were there. Keep in mind that this is coming from a Louisiana boy where snow is a once in a decade kind of event. Locals may have a difference of opinion on whether there was plenty of snow, you'll have to take that up with them.
We arrived on Saturday of President's Day weekend. This is a big deal for people in this area. It is a long holiday weekend and kids get off three days of school. How were we to know? We weren't able to rent a snow mobile as they were all booked up. We did manage to secure a ride on a "Snow Yacht" into the Park on Sunday. A Snow Yacht is a tour bus that has had the wheels taken off and replaced with tracks.
We rode in to Old Faithful. Quite a site it was. Along the way the scenery was beautiful. We also got to see Buffalo, Elk, Coyote, and birds of various types, in particular the Trumpeter Swan. We also took a walk around some hot springs and minor geysers. I will remember this trip for a long time.
